Dear Deborah

Q My boss is a bully and a micro manager. I love my job and want to stay, but how do I manage him?

A If he's a micro manager, his focus is on the work at hand, not people. He may not be aware of the impact he's having so help him pay attention to it by calmly naming his behaviour. "It's not helpful to me or my team when you raise your voice."

Ensure you agree on timeframes for deliverables and stick to them. If he's impacting your ability to get the job done or manage your team, you have a responsibility to say so.

Stay detached and professional. Remember that his poor behaviour is not a reflection of your performance and don't take it personally!
